I forget the kid's name who lived at the end of the road in a trailer. Some new housing was being built up in the area, and my family was one of the new arrivals. I suppose some might have considered his family white trash in comparison to the rest of the neighborhood being built up around them. Nonetheless, we got along.
One day we decided to skip school and play pool in his garage, explore the creek that ran on the outskirts of the development, and when the bus dropped kids off that afternoon, go home like any other day.
Apparently, and unbeknowst to me at the time, schools keep track of student attendance. So, the next morning as I'm waiting at the bus stop, my dad looking none too pleased is fast approaching. Turns out the school called that morning asking why I wasn't in school the previous day. He pantsed me, and gave me the belt all the way home. Thankfully it was only a few houses away. All the kids at the bus stop found this quite entertaining.
I didn't skip class again until 12th grade.
