It’s an unpopular opinion on here but I love cats. I have a few of them. Losing a pet can sometimes be harder than a person. Sorry for your loss

i had a cat that i absolutely hated yet when it died i still cried, dog died a few weeks ago and i fucking loved it. no matter your love or hate for the animal the emptiness left afterwards is painful

Best pet I ever owned was a cat. We did many "dog activities" together. Except walk. He was a total retard with a leash or harness.

Still miss him.

Ive been rescuing animals, mostly cats all my life. I run my own 501 (c) 3 for them and always have at least 20 in my care plus colonies at any time so I share in your loss. However , try to keep this in mind. Animals do not carry a watch or calendar. By living totally in the moment they know only that their life is GOOD or their life is BAD. For a LIFETIME you gave the cat a great home and love and it never had to worry. Something that cant be said for the majority of animals in the world. Take pride in giving the cat that kind of life and don't be afraid to do it again. The rewards are always bigger than the sorrow.

Thank you for this. I posted about my cat. Your words will make my decision a little easier. He has been such a badass his whole life. I watched him chase & kill a rabbit once.

The decision is NEVER an easy one and it NEVER feels like the right thing to do. I've done it over 100 times in my life and it never gets any easier till you get some distance on it. Then you realize that part of being an animal parent is knowing when it's best for THEM not YOU to take the pain away.

I have also had to make the decision too many times. I also did wildlife rescue & rehabilitation for years. Our goal was to release back into the wild. When the decision came to euthanize or put into an educational program it was horrible. Taking care of a baby owl or wolf pup, you become attached. I also did dog rescue after that. It's rewarding and heartbreaking.

Well, that sucks

That's why I don't want cats or dogs, you get attached and then they die

I have spiders though, on my balcony

Had to put down my old cat recently. Know the feels.

I am so sorry for your loss.

But remember that the best way to honor your kitty is, after a suitable time (for you), providing a home for a new kitty.

Sorry to hear, think of good memories

It's struggle is over. Yours continues, with a bit of sadness for the next short term.

It was a cat. Get a dog, it will love you way more.

Aww damn man sorry to hear that. :(

Sorry, fren. I've had my orange tabby 12 years now, the thought of losing her is depressing but it will happen. Take a small amount of solace in remembering that you cared for your fuzzy fren better than anyone else could have.

In the words of (((Dr. Suess))), "Do not cry because it is over, smile because it happened." I'm truly sorry. I have 7 dogs and 3 cats buried in my yard. I know how it feels. If we lived close, he'd be welcome to spend eternity under a shady tree here. God speed little kitty.
