I am a VP of Tech and can tell you that yes, some companies have gone woke. But generally speaking, there are still LOTS of companies out there that will still hire straight white males. When I hire here in the US, I absolutely am ONLY hiring straight white males. And you better damn well be conservative on your social media, and have played a sport too.
The real underlying challenge that you have is the cost of your salary+benefits. For generic C# + SQL Server development roles, I can get 5 Indians or 3.5 Vietnamese for the cost of 1 equivalently-skilled and equivalently-experienced American. You are never going to be able to compete with that.
So what you need to do is specialize and show the value you bring to a hiring manager over those 5 indians. That means you can't just be a generic full stack dev. You need to focus on a particular industry...or be a specialist in a hard-to-find skill...or manage offshore teams...or also run scrums...or be an architect.
You have lots of options and opportunities...but don't try to go toe to toe with street shitters.
5 indians who code shit spaghetti code vs the 1 white guy who will write clean testable code that will last more than 3 months before it falls apart. what you're arguing is the difference between buying 1 classic corvette or 5 used mitsubishi galant's.
Not if you write good requirements and specs.
The larger point I'm trying to make to you as the OP is that it is very difficult to use "quality" as a differentiator during the interview process. Quality becomes self-evident over time, but to get your foot in the door, you need more than that.
Good point.
Indians are the fucking worst at programming.
I work with dot Indians. A white person is worth at least 7-8 dot Indians. Any fewer Indians and you are losing money. Seriously, they can't even change their password without a 40 minute handhold.
Some, yes, agree. But you can find "adequate" ones who are easily worth the 5-1 ratio. Generally you hire Americans to manage them and to write good requirements and specs.
I think I have found 2, but they work onshore and get paid the same as the whites. The ones making pennies are worthless.
I just spent 30 minutes walking an offshore dev through changing a password because he changed it and forgot it immediately.
This is a daily occurrance with offshore.
The Dots don't have an IQ above 85.
Need a senior data and analytics leader?
Not right at this moment given budget constraints, but potentially in the near/mid future. I'll bookmark your comment and ping you if I get approval to hire for that role.
Hey cool. Thanks.
