I never really understood why gutters exist. I suppose you will have a thicker flow of water by the edge of your house and particularly this might be problematic by a doorway. If it's raining outside, why does it matter? You're going to need an umbrella if you don't want to get wet.
They prevent splashback onto the house, door sills, foundation sill and first course of siding. Dramatically reduces premature rot of wood structures.
