Here in Belgium they can keep you for months if they think you're a danger to other or/and yourself. The decision is in the hands of the judge and the college of psychiatrists. This has been abused in the past. Not long ago a doctor denouncing the vaccination campaign has been committed for three weeks just because a college of ''experts'' said he had lost his mind.
Baker Act 5150 been there. You heal but lose the right to buy a weapon. There are lawyers that can help you petition but I never bothered.
