Airbags are a fucking menace. An explosive device, sitting 18 inches away from my face all the time I'm in the car, which may go off at any instant without warning, while I'm leaning forward, removing my glasses, picking my nose, scratching my head with a pencil, stretching my neck. Bam! Explosive impact against my face. Hot plastic burning my skin. Oh yeah, I can control my car when this happens, if it's swerving across the road to go off a cliff. No problem.
Seatbelts can cause permanent soft tissue damage. I had a diagonal bruise across my body after a fairly serious wreck, messed up my neck but at least I'm here to talk about it.
I know a person who was hit by a dump truck while driving a VW Bug. Had he wore a seat belt he would likely have died.
I know it is one case and anecdotal, but true nonetheless.

If you get t-boned, a seatbelt may be the reason you get killed. I've seen it happen.
