Unfortunately for my position a four week notice is required to have your vacation paid out. Trust me I would have given only two weeks if I could have gotten away with it.

Naw. Companies aren't even required to pay out vacation at all. They can set polices like this.
Four weeks notice is actually fairly standard in management positions like mine.
