I think I'm going to take August off, maybe September too.

This work thing is overrated.

At the end of your sojourn on this planet I doubt you'll be thinking, gee, I wish I had worked more. Enjoy your time off pal.

Exactly what I'm thinking.

Thanks!

Probably not the best time to do this, what with inflation bullshit.

If anything, it's probably best to make as much money as possible right now, and spend it on necessary purchases ASAP, before it gets more expensive as your dollars become worth less and less.

I actually convinced several people to stop paying taxes with this logic. $100 today isn't worth what it was 4 months ago, not even close. So w/e savings you have, even if it's a good amount that should allow you to live comfortably without income for 2 years, that may change rapidly.

Would've been best to do this in the middle of covid.... where you could collect obscene amounts of money for no work. But look at us suckers, who worked through the deadly pandemic- some of us made less money working than the people who stayed home and collected unemployment for 2 fucking years.

I hope it works out for you, I just think you should consider this aspect of the decision. You already pulled the trigger, so it's done, hopefully you thought about that.

I'm not worried about inflation. Everything I have is paid for. My bills are minimum. I'm an excellent cook and create great meals on the cheap.

The only thing that sucks is I plan to do some traveling and gas prices fucking blow #FJB

Exactly. All those 12+ hour shifts I missed plus falling into a hire tax bracket so the 👃 can hide more sheckles! I should have worked more!

Nice! I took a (an involuntary) summer off in 2020, I'd love to do it again.

I told an old associate I quit and she already had someone call me about working for them. I haven't returned their call yet, but I'll going to be like, "can I start in October". Lol

Years ago I got laid off from a job. I thought that I would take a few months, draw unemployment, catch up on things around the house, and enjoy the time off. Nope! As soon as people heard that I wasn't working I started getting call after call, people wanting me to come work for them! I worked out a deal with one of them to start work like 2 months later! Hahaha.

Good move. Wife and I are spending August in Montana just wandering around with our van (my nearly-dead folks are there, handy "excuse" for her work that they need assistance preparing for winter). We've previously taken 3 months off to be ski bums there too.... our yearly goal is a 4~6 week vacation and we've done that just about every year since 2014. Beats the shit out of the path our folks took, ZERO vacations for ~40 years then to tired to do anything with the time and money.

Good to be in a position where you can tell an employer "I'm leaving and will be back XXYY, if my job's here, great. If not... who cares".

What are your plans? Go somewhere or just kick around locally?

Glad to see you're in a good situation.

Plan to spend a lot of time on the Lake Erie Islands. I have family in Tennessee that I'll likely visit as well. Have a lot of fishing to catch up on.

From the 40's through the 60's half of Tennessee moved to Michigan for work! Whole lot of people have family in both states.

Sounds like an outstanding plan. Nothing like fish right out of the water and time away from "modern civilization"

I really hope you enjoy your time.

Must be nice to be rich

[–] 4 pts

I'm not rich but I do have a few years of salary tucked away (net). I live well below my means.

Plus I have three weeks of vacation that will be cashed out so that's almost a month's salary right there.

The key to living a better life later on.

I ran out of work a month ago, and don't care. I worked 2 days last week as a favor to a fren, got paid VERY good money, but didn't care. Work really is overrated. Good thing I have some savings...I juss wanna cruz around on my bike, and eat hot chip.

Nice. :)

Yeah. I mean I've been busting my ass for more than 25 years. I think having a couple months break will be good for me. What's the point of stashing away cash if I never use it to buy some time for myself?

No one ever laid on their deathbed, saying 'I should have spent more time at work'

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

If I could've just worked one more 12hr shift!

[–] 1 pt

If I could quit and just stay home I would be happy, enjoy it man.

Getting ready to quit as well. Working on lining out new work before i let them know. Sizeable amount of vacation stacked but i have plans for that other than paying my direct living expenses. Going to get some more tools and preps together.

Going to get some more tools and preps together.

Can't go wrong with that.

I usually take a few months off between contracts. You'll love it.

Entirely overrated
