Of course it is. See Romans 12:2, 1 Peter 3:15.

Christians used to compel by the sword and they are now turning the cheek

Is this a sign of eventual peace or inevitable war?

When you speak about the sword, you speak of the times under the Old Covenant (the covenant God made with Abraham, a convenant that the Israelites later broke). Under the New Covenant the cause is that of peace (new covenant brought about by the death, burial, and ressurection of Christ Jesus, the perfect sacrifice to take away sins, to pay finally for all sin--this is why burn offerings, blood sacrifices are no longer necessary, nor permitted. To do so would be to claim Christ's sacrifice was insufficient). Christians are not called to be judges, but servants to the lost people of the world. "Vegence is mine, thus says the Lord."

You may consider this inconsistant. I would say look to the prophecy of the old testament, that which speaks to the coming of the Messiah, the Son of God, and to the cause of sin, and why God has not simply snapped his fingers to undo the actions of Adam, through whom sin entered the world. It speaks to our purpose, why God made us, and how He is working through our evils to bring about a paradise, to live in fellowship with those willing, even if only a few choose to enter.

There is far too much to go into in one comment.

The more I learn about ancient history as it relates to the Bible makes me grieve for those lost and for my own failings. Was it Paul whom said die daily to sin?
