Celebrating the 4th last night. We picked Sunday because we all got today off.

Which mean drinking and fireworks. Two other dads and I brought each a couple hundred bucks in fireworks.

So hanging out by the pool all afternoon drinking, swimming. Finally it gets dark.

So we break out the goods. Nobody else was letting anything off around us. Started to get worried, people where waiting for the actual 4th to light em up..

Fuck it are whole party about 30+ people out in the street.

However we are white, we have a nice big area of asphalt and a running hose near by. So we light up the sky.

About half way into the show. As I'm lighting another firework. I look over, at one of the neighbors house I'm pretty much of in front of at this point.

I see an old couple like in their 70's. They brought lawn chairs and where holding hands. Enjoying our impromptu show.

Also being white we all swept the street cleaner than it started afterword.

COVID fucked with my ability to tell but when Trump was still in office, must have been 2020. They tried to ban the 4th of July. I lived in SoCal almost all my life and I had NEVER seen such a turn out for the 4th. I literally remember my brother coming over to hang out with me and from about 9pm to 12:30am the fireworks did not stop at all. I remember watching helicopter video in the news and on YT and it was like the entire sky was on fire the entire night, everywhere.

The duality of it all was extreme because it was during COVID but it was during that period were it wasn't yet clear just how full retard the governments were going to go with it and people were being civil and still hoped sanity would prevail. It showed me, despite media perception, that the vast majority of people were still good and honest Americans who were not beyond redemption. That most people still understood, despite our differences, we still could agree on the most important issues. The fireworks were merely the context in which it was displayed.

My hope is that tonight I am able to be reminded once again but I have my doubts.

My next door neighbor and I helped the guy across the street install and raise a new flagpole on Saturday. Three white men working together without any prompting or hassle.

I'm glad someone is having a good day. It's been absolutely dog shit for me. Not in the mood for festivities. Not feeling any particular way about today unlike past years. I get the day off and it just turned into Sunday pt.2
