Be careful. A guy I know recently almost died quitting drinking too fast. If it gets rough seek help, try too hard to tough it out, you might not wake up. Lucky for him he was found before it was too late.
Im also trying to curb my drinking. It’s extremely difficult I’ve found. Been having abdominal pains lately and forced to see a doctor. They are very concerned about my liver and pancreas. Not drinking makes my pain go away, so that definitely helps me not to drink. I recommend trying to slow down, it’s great not feeling like shit and remembering the previous day.
Before most of you were born. Damn then you'll recognize this old time phrase, you old fart. :)
haha same dif. I kinda prefer the sound of alive.
How have you managed not to become an alcoholic if you've been drinking that long?
He's absolutely an alcoholic. If he claims he's not, that's called "denial" and most addicts engage in it. If you've been drinking bourbon for 40+ years, you're almost hopelessly addicted. The chances of getting sober are not great, and OP has poor decision making skills- buying beer to help "ween himself off" the booze.
Alcoholics should not be holding drinks, period. Dude should probably be in the hospital...
Maybe he'll read what you said. I suspected, I've been around.
Im highly functioning. I dont think there would any problem quitting except for mentally, and I aint saying Im quitting either.
You don't drink a lot relatively then. You wouldn't say you're an alcoholic.
I do have friends in Scotland that are able to manage their whiskey pretty well.
I dunno how, I do everything to the extreme, well, many things, some lawful, some not so much.
I've seen a person die as a result of their drinking, tbh it was practically inevitable, like sinking in quicksand, but slower
anyone in your situation should be scared shitless
We aint all the same, aint scared
you aren't at rock bottom yet, don't get blase about it
And I wont be, Man I get up at 4am every weekday morning and go to work. If I do hit rock bottom it wont be alcohols fault. It will be brandons. Its just so tempting to day drink on weekends when you got nothing better to do.
But why?
Im kinda getting tired of feeling bad sometimes. My liver needs a fuckin break. So does my money. And my stupid posting I know you will miss. Just to see if I can do it. Fuck why ask why? Your fixing to change my mind and if so its all on you!
You should tell your doctor you're detoxing from the booze. It can be dangerous. Addicts don't know how to properly ween themselves, especially in the case of alcohol where you have easy, unlimited access to it.
My major concern would be seizures. You make it sound like you're in your 60s or older, and that you've been a fucking drunk for most of that time- your body chemistry is almost hopelessly fucked up. Alcohol withdrawals can kill.
I100% support you getting off the sauce (you don't need it, and I think booze is one of the only things preventing a revolution...), but do it safely.
I dont do doctors.
I have quit alot of other things in my life I was addicted to, guess Im lucky that way.. And I aint quitting, just slowing down for a bit.
I'm not really here to change your mind. My questions can either be taken as those of a questing scholar seeking knowledge, or as the village idiot acting the fool. Your choice.
Hey! I'M this site's village idiot!!!
HUGE! AWESOME!!!!
YOU GOT THIS!!!!
PRAYERS TO YOUR SUCCESS!!!
Sounds painful.
Good for you bro.
This whole no drink thing started for me way back on old Voat in August 2017 as either a week or month no-drink challenge (don't remember which), that I just never stopped doing. Many shitty parts of my life, just one after another, started to right itself as it became clear to me that it was the booze holding me back. August this year will mark the 5-year milestone.
Honestly can say I don't miss it. I laugh in the face of a bottle of Jameson, it cannot tempt me.
