I don't think it's a control freak thing often. I think often before many get jaded by to many bad calls. I think many join to be peace officers and to make sure it's safe for children to play outside or cross the street or not get raped. I think it's mainly they want to help make their world a better place by doing the right thing. I think many use the rules as a guide to their own judgement and they'd rather just you and them have a great day. Though sometimes there is an asshole that kills that wish during their shift, might even be a superior just reamed out by a politician like a mayor or some crony and then the shit runs downhill the rest of the day. I just try to make sure I'm on my very best behavior with a smile, yes sir, no sir and thank you sir. I am a vet and my dad was one also and that makes the sir part second nature to myself. I tell the truth and look them in the eye friendly and respectful. Some parts of this country have shit police because they have to deal with insane, drugged/drunk out of their gourds shitty citizens. I really understand any frustration they might have and try never to accidentally add on to it.
