I would buy my wife an engraved piece of jewelry with his name before I’d let her get a tattoo.

It absolutely tarnishes it. She’s not putting a mark on her skin. I don’t care how sentimental she gets about it. I wouldn’t allow it. And yes, I say “allow.”
Further, the term “jewelry” doesn’t derive from the word “jew.” Just like the term “brains” doesn’t derive from your favorite article of clothing to prance around in - a “bra.”
