I grew up in Maryland and the only place I’ve heard the term lightning bugs. Fond memories.
Some yankees call them fireflies.

They had lightening bugs in the Midwest in Missouri. I haven't seen them on the east or west coast where I've lived for years. I loved watching them years ago fly around at night in the summer And in Missouri they were called lightening bugs.
Yep, there've been tons out the last few days at least.
I'm hoping to move back in that direction soon. I haven't seen them since I was a kid. We don't have them in California. Loved watching them summer nights.
I do too!
In French they are called Lucioles. I haven't seen one in a while. They bring a eery vibe
I disagree, I find it quite beautiful walking down the street and little lights going on and off is enchanting almost like nature is giving you an evening escort to show you how wonderful it can be.
Yeah, yeah, I don't mean to say they aren't beautiful. I meant it in a beautiful eery way.
I had some of them flying in my yard last night. I like them too
I rode my Harley into a murmuration of lightning bugs once. I must have killed 6 million of them. It was pretty sad, but the bright side of it was I could ride with my headlight off.
I like turtles.
Grab a few, bust their tails off when they are lit, and smush them on your front teeth for a natural glow in the dark smile
That's gross and dumb. I now dislike you.
There is a place in Tennessee where all the lightening bugs blink at the same time. They coordinate their blink with each other. I have not been there and experienced it myself. I would really like to, but the people that own that place charge you to see it. I can't remember how much they charge, I do remember that at the time I thought it was too much to pay after having to travel all the way there, so we have not been there.
Lightning buys that suck your blood would be cool too, they could taunt you with a red tint as they flew off!
