J&J sends adenoviruses into the nucleus where they produce the mRNA, while the mRNA vaccines deliver pre-manufactured mRNA into the cells - everything that follows after the delivery is identical. The problem is that the mRNA produces antigens that simulate the Wuhan variant. When the body tries to use the antibodies against Delta or Omicron, they fail and the body misses the chance to create an Omicron specific defence.
