I can't say that for all alcoholics, but I know what alcohol does for me.
It makes me more myopic, in the sense that I can be distracted by a single thing and not have to be overwhelmed by everything that is around me.
Alcohol dulls the brain, not that I think my brain is particularly good, but I would say that my brain gets to thinking about really uncomfortable topics if I don't distract it enough.
I'd rather shit-post or read or write or watch a TV Show than actually have to think.
