Wait until you find out all carbohydrates are sugar. The only difference is how long the chain of sugar molecules is. Once digested they're all glucose in your blood. 100 grams of sugar or 100 grams of "good" carbs is still 100 grams of sugar in your blood stream, where it causes metabolic disorders and diseases related to sugar metabolism like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. Those are just the big ones. Then there's dental cavities, oxidative stress, glycated triglycerides, and all kinds of other bad stuff. Carbohydrates are poison.
Are you a 'calorie in calorie out' guy, all calories are the same?
That depends on what you mean by "calories in." Some things are more digestible than others. For example, humans can't digest wood. You can eat 1,000 tons of wood and you won't gain an ounce once you shit it out.
That's right, I know that the topic is argued a lot.
Surely though consuming 100 calories of processed table sugar is less healthy than consuming it via a glass of real juice.
