Yes pretty much. The North wanted insane, super high taxes on Southern goods, especially Southern goods sold to England. The South didn't want a "progressive" (yes, the Northern Republicans called themselves "progressives" and were pretty much the same kikes as modern "progressives") federal government meddling in their daily lives.

The Union Federal Supremacists winning the war was the prelude to all the federal government meddling in our lives we see today and would have been impossible without it.
