Found a lump in my throat in January that didn't respond to antibiotics and steriods. Led to an ultrasound, which led to a CT scan, and then a biopsy... turned out to be stage 2 throat cancer that hadn't metastasized (spread elsewhere), so very treatable.

Started chemo and radiation yesterday. Two mega-sessions of chemo every three weeks and seven weeks of radiation.

Literally and figuratively, it's a major pain in the neck. The cath port and PEG tube surgery were especially bothersome. Catch it early if you can!

Edit 4/21/2022 Thought I might try to journal how the treatments are going here for anyone thats interested. Likely will find I skip a few days here and there on days where nothing much changes.

4/20/2022 - Back to work after taking Friday, Monday and Tuesday off. - felt good being productive. Broke for my radiation therapy for about an hour... fell asleep inside of 10 minutes in the waiting room and had to be roused awake (man that was weird). During radiation, the oncologist watched what was going on and adjusted the targeting slightly.
Sleep patterns seem to be changing a bit... fast asleep by 6:30 pm, for 8+ hours. Nausea seems to be the predominant symptom and the only thing related to the cancer treatment that I'm taking medication for. Appears I've lost about 4 lbs since Monday (6'1" , 196 lbs).

4/21/2022 - Managed to stay awake throughout today's radiation session. Pulse measured at a somewhat low 45 bpm. Still no real pain from the radiation therapy. Work was fine, but felt a bit foggy and caught myself rambling a bit at times. I've whipped up a few old favorites in the kitchen, but everything has a distinct metallic taste... probably just as well, given the persistent nausea, although the nausea may be abating.

4/24/2022 - Everything still has a metallic taste, including water... really weird. Down about 9 lbs so far. Spent a few hours outside, hanging with friends. Almost didn't, as I was dragging, but it left me invigorated and feeling better than I have all week.

4/25/2022 - Start of Week 2 of radiation, still no real radiation-related discomfort noted. Saw the doctor today who admonished me to use the PEG tube... I'm down 12 lbs in one week according to his scale.

4/30/2022 - The farther I get from the first round of chemo, the better I feel. Taste and smell still badly out of whack, but haven't needed much in the way of nausea relief for a few days now. No real discomfort from radiation treatments so far. Weight down 14 lbs.

5/05/22 - Started experiencing elevated throat pain a couple of days ago, a result of the ongoing radiation treatments. Feels like a very bad sore throat.

5/11/2022 - Completed the final round of chemo therapy yesterday, which was identical to the first round three weeks ago. Expecting the effects of the chemo to land in full Thursday or Friday. Will still need to visit the chemo center every six weeks or so for cath port maintenance (Heparin to prevent blood clotting from plugging up the port). Today will also mark the midpoint of my radiation therapy. I spend a good deal of time managing an extremely sore throat (Advil, a prescription elixer, peppermint tea, etc...), along with an extremely dry mouth (frequent brushing, mouthwash), but the size of the lump in my neck feels like it's about half the size of was at the beginning, so feels like progress is being made.

5/18/2022 - Doctors feel I've held up to the chemo and radiation pretty well so far, so much so that the chemo oncologist suggested another round of Cisplatin, etc..., on the theory that 'more is better' if I can take it. So another 10 hours of chemo coming up in a couple of weeks. Down 25lbs after 4 1/2 weeks.

5/24/2022 - Sore throat is growing worse after abating for a while. Getting fatigued pretty quickly, probably need to up my calorie intake via the PEG tube. Currently unable to eat any solid food, but thankfully am able to tolerate water and tea. Very much looking forward to the end of therapy and the start of recovery.

6/04/2022 - The cumulative effects of the radiation has gotten quite noticeable. Throat pain requires narcotics every four hours, the skin on my neck from my ears almost down to my collarbone is quite red, and the hair on the back of my head from about the neckline to about a third of the way up has disappeared... looks like a really bad do-it-yourself haircut. But the lump in my neck feels like it's completely gone!

All done with chemo and have just one radiation session left (Monday). Down ~30lbs at this point, looking forward to writing about my recovery from the therapy!

I'm not even kidding, find a Mexican friend and go to Mexico. They have many treatments for cancers that are cured without chemo like B25 and some shark shit.

Funny you should mention that... one of the nurses at chemo today mentioned the potential benefits of B vitamin complexes.

I'm due for another trip to to the border, and have just the woman in mind. Trip is on the top of my list once the current therapy is complete.

Best wishes hope things go well. Thankfully treatable. IM hoping more research is done on fenbendazole and ivermectin for cancer treatment. From what I've read they have promise

There's no magic bullet so to speak. It's a combination of things that need to be done in order to help your body fight the cancer. For anyone interested look into the Gerson therapy.

Of all the hype cures, this one is the most versatile and has all the documentation to fully back the claims. If anyone around me were to develop cancers, this would be my immediate response hands down.

I agree. The problem is getting someone to stick to the diet is harder than cutting out a chunk of tumor or any of the nonvoluntary "treatments" that modern medicine provides.

Read this:

https://www.mycancerstory.rocks/single-post/my-story-part-1-start-here

TLDR: you may be able to beat it with a dog dewormer from Walmart..no shit.

Sidenote: interesting that some are saying ivermectin has anti-cancer properties, too. Both drugs have been around for decades and the patents expired long ago..go figure.

My fren was diagnosed with stage 4, but is fine now, 4 years later. Chin up.

Glad to hear you got it early. You will do great!

As well, remember mental fitness is REALLY REALLY important. My favourite technique is to visualize the bright future we are bringing our people into a bright future and it works really well for me. You will need to find your own story and visualize that. And, if you can, start writing about this new future, this new vision, whatever it might be for you. Writing about it engages different subsystems in your brain and helps explore the ideas from different perspectives.

And, if you ever just want to chat, we are all here for you. If you want, message me any time, I will make my self available.

Thanks Crunchy - that's great advice.

Being able to borrow thoughts from sources you might never encounter in real life can't be overstated either. Thank you all...

Did the lump hurt before you started treatment?

[–] 1 pt (edited )

No, not really... just felt like a knot and was barely noticeable. Did seem like there was slight growth between detection and the start of treatment, but that might just be my imagination. Believe there's only one lymph node involved.

Burns a bit now though, perhaps as a result of the two doses of radiation I've received(?). Not bad at the moment.

edit: spelling

What have the treatments made you feel like?

[–] 1 pt

It's been interesting...

Day 1 chemo: 5 hrs to get 4 different solutions in. They do 'em one at a time, and the main bag (Cisplatin) takes about three hours to go down. The other 3 bags were administered first in the following order: 1) Nausea suppressor, 2) a 'flush' which is mostly saline I believe (to insure bladder function is properly exercised), and 3) a steroid to offset aches and pains.

Day 1 radiation: ~30 mins end to end, although you're only getting radiation for perhaps 10 minutes. No pain that you didn't arrive with, though I'm told that you'll feel each session the next day and the pain will progress to a point where swallowing is difficult/impossible. Hence the PEG tube. Esentially, the techs stretch you out on a moving board, and pin your head down with a mesh mask personalized for you so the radiation is properly delivered to its target. It's quite a machine...

Day 2 was essentially the same as Day 1, but I'm done with chemo for three weeks, so it'll just be radiation 5 days a week until then, followed by another 2-day chemo mega-dose and 4 weeks more of radiation. That's the current plan anyway.

The radiation is a one patient at a time thing, of course, but the chemo is administered in a large open room with perhaps 30 recliners and stands setup. You might think sitting around with 20 or so people with a potentially terminal illness, all taking poison, would be kind of depressing, but strangely it's not. Friendly banter abounds, and the jokes flow freely, and the nurses are angels, and that certainly factors in as a major part of the therapy...

Try to find a real naturopath. You might be able to treat it either without or in parallel with the chemo/rad poisons.

[–] 2 pts

A naturopath? Sounds like something I should investigate further...

I've swapped back to a full-blown keto diet already, having become convinced the carbs from sugars are completely counterproductive going forward. Will be sacrificing a rooster once a week too (trying to cover all bases).

[–] 2 pts

I think most of our ailments trave back to either contaminant we introduce to our bodies or lack of proper nutrition. An old school natural medicine naturopath might be able to help you. Careful though, mainstream docs don't like it when you try to heal yourself outside of their regime.

[–] 2 pts

Concur. When you try to get healed as oppossed to treated.

[–] 1 pt

I posted a book written by a naturopathic doctor called "the cure to all cancers" pretty interesting stuff. I have other books on the topic of you like to read them. I also have the Rick Simpson protocol. Lemme know if you are down to do some reading

Thanks - I most definitely am! Where would I find those?

Gerson Therapy

Seems promising.... cutting edge stuff.
