I smoked for about a decade but quit long ago. I couldn't help but notice your wording

without buying a pack of cigarettes

You're not just bumming cigarettes from other people, are you?

The only time I have bummed cigarettes is specifically when I am at a smoking bar, which has been twice. I'm notnclaiming to have quit, but baby steps.

Also, fuck you.

Also, fuck you.

Well it certainly sounds like you're working on quitting.

I used to, now when I try even socially, I don't enjoy it really at all.

I have friends who, when they go over to Holland, they smoke 'socially' cause others do.

My dad and dad in law smoked for half their lives, but quit and lived into their late 80s.

You have to quit, you have no choice. So get er done.

Bumming cigarettes was how I successfully quit. Said I'd stop buying them, and "Gave myself permission" to beg for them as much as I wanted. I think I had 1 and was so disgusted with myself that that was it. I think it's about 8 or 9 years now.

Keep at it ya faggot.

Not buying cigarettes is a good first step.

Good start. Cold turkey simply isn't right for the body, especially if you've been consuming the addictive chemical for a long time. Best to slowly reduce your intake of the substance to allow your body chemistry to get closer to "normal" again. You didn't mention your smoking habits, but even if you smoked 1/2 a pack a day and went to "two in the last month", that's a huge step, good for you. Hang in there.

Chew gum. This can help more than you might think. This can also help prevent the weight gain that often accompanies smoking cessation (people tend to replace nicotine with food, so instead of smoking a cig they have a snack, and you can guess where that leads).

I've tried several methods, and cold turkey was the most effective, twice. I took the first week off work so I could just let myself relax and not have any responsibilities or work stressing me out and triggering me.

I love the people of this website. So acutely observant when compared to the average human. Usually.

Also, good for you, Theodore_Kent! Keep it up brother!

It's been over 7 years since my last cigarette. I don't have any desire to purchase or smoke them at all now.
