I smoked for about a decade but quit long ago. I couldn't help but notice your wording

without buying a pack of cigarettes

You're not just bumming cigarettes from other people, are you?

[–] 5 pts

The only time I have bummed cigarettes is specifically when I am at a smoking bar, which has been twice. I'm notnclaiming to have quit, but baby steps.

Also, fuck you.

Also, fuck you.

Well it certainly sounds like you're working on quitting.

I used to, now when I try even socially, I don't enjoy it really at all.

I have friends who, when they go over to Holland, they smoke 'socially' cause others do.

My dad and dad in law smoked for half their lives, but quit and lived into their late 80s.

You have to quit, you have no choice. So get er done.

Bumming cigarettes was how I successfully quit. Said I'd stop buying them, and "Gave myself permission" to beg for them as much as I wanted. I think I had 1 and was so disgusted with myself that that was it. I think it's about 8 or 9 years now.

Keep at it ya faggot.

Not buying cigarettes is a good first step.

Good start. Cold turkey simply isn't right for the body, especially if you've been consuming the addictive chemical for a long time. Best to slowly reduce your intake of the substance to allow your body chemistry to get closer to "normal" again. You didn't mention your smoking habits, but even if you smoked 1/2 a pack a day and went to "two in the last month", that's a huge step, good for you. Hang in there.

Chew gum. This can help more than you might think. This can also help prevent the weight gain that often accompanies smoking cessation (people tend to replace nicotine with food, so instead of smoking a cig they have a snack, and you can guess where that leads).

I've tried several methods, and cold turkey was the most effective, twice. I took the first week off work so I could just let myself relax and not have any responsibilities or work stressing me out and triggering me.

I love the people of this website. So acutely observant when compared to the average human. Usually.

Also, good for you, Theodore_Kent! Keep it up brother!

It's been over 7 years since my last cigarette. I don't have any desire to purchase or smoke them at all now.

Theo IS a bit of a wordsmith, after all....

Good job man. Keep it up.

I quit for six years once, last year I quit for about three months. Then I say fuck it.

[–] 2 pts

It's weird how that works. Similar situation.

Been thinking of quitting again.

[–] 1 pt

I always think about it, sometimes it even disgusts me.

[–] 2 pts

it even disgusts me.

The smoking or the quitting?

As a young 21 year old I began smoking cigarettes. I smoked for about 3 maybe 4 years till I couldn't stand the smell any longer. So I went out and found MY kind of nicotine intake method: Grizzly Wintergreen Longcut. Yum! So for about 10-12 years that's all I did. Then last summer, I decided it's about time to quit, so I switched over to the Rogue nicotine pouches. Then earlier this month, when I had covid, I was too sick to even use the pouches so I quit. I'm almost at a month myself. April 5th.

Congrats.

[–] 2 pts

covid does not exist, you had a cold.

[–] 0 pt

This was no ordinary cold and I'm never ill. Like, not once in the last decade. Normal colds are like 5-7 days. 10 max. This was 15-18 days of more phlegm spewing body aching misery I've ever encountered. I've never been sick like this. I don't know what it was, but it wasn't normal.

[–] 0 pt

The mask-wearing made you ill. I should have had Cohen69 a million times, as I never wore masks or used hand sanitizer, but I did go to stores every day, talk to people, shake hands with the few that would, etc. Never sick. Why?

Smoke one, faggot, be a man

[–] 3 pts

Stay strong it gets easier. Even if you mess up dont let the guilt get to you or it's easy to spiral.

[–] 3 pts

I, too, have been rolling my own.

[–] 2 pts

Native American Spirit rolling tobacco is so horrible that another Trail of Tears is in order.

[–] 2 pts

Great! My father-in-law quite 30 years past because he couldn't stand paying for them.

[–] 2 pts

Fuckin a bro

[–] 3 pts

This is why we need proper punctuation.

[–] 2 pts

If you go the lozenge route do mint over cherry.

You're welcome.

[–] 2 pts

I been vaping cuz it makes me look cool

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Shit, be careful with that vaping, before you know it you'll be wearing a fedora and driving a subaru wrx....

[–] 2 pts

I'm already riding a hoverboard

[–] 2 pts

progress. it gets easier as time goes on

even though I only smoked for maybe 8 months nearly a decade ago to this day I still occasionally catch myself staring at some of the shit in gas stations

It's okay, Johnny Cash used to stare at "pretty blue Percodans."
