Calling customer service when they open tomorrow. I didn't go w/ the extended warranty b/c a wall mounted tv that's never touched should last more than a year. 1st world problems am I right? I'll have to watch TV on the other two upstairs or on one of many computers. In that context I feel like such a bitch for whining about it. On the other hand though... fuck that TV it should last more than just over a year.

How is it powered? USB port from the TV or external power supply?

external power cord that's not usb, that 2 pronged plug to standard wall outlet. Boot screen lights up for a sec after unplugged then replugged turns on and functions w/ black screen. If customer service fucks me tomorrow I'll open it up and look for anything obvious like bulging capacitors before I decide whether it's worth it to get more involved.

I do but that's gonna get put off another day. I stayed up all night drinking and It's likely I'll succeed in fucking a tv atm b4 I could hope to fix one

99 percent of the time it is the filter caps off of the mains usually a 2200nf and a couple of 1200nf positioned right above the transformer so they burn up quick.

Crack it open, and check the capacitors, especially the power supply capacitors. Replace them with better capacitors than you took out. 95% of the time, the failure is a specific power supply capacitor. The data sheets for components have a graph telling you exactly how long you should expect the components to last under certain conditions, so they design them to last maybe a week longer than the warranty. The main power supply capacitor is easiest to design to be the weak link. Paying someone else to repair it is usually more expensive than buying a new TV. The reason is, that these guys are usually also the same guys selling the TVs. This is all just to get more money from you.

My electronics degree has more than paid for itself just by repairing electronics around the home that were designed to fail to force you to buy new.

yeah, it was a cheap replacement when the last one died. I expected much more than a little over a year though. I've never really been much of an expensive tv guy but the cheapness of this crap is absurd. My LCD and LED vizios upstairs still going strong after years and years

I've never had one die on me yet (haven't owned one for that long but I knew from the start they were shit because of how little control they give you over things like picture settings.
