The only way it's possible that it's not a "thing" is:

  1. CO2 doesn't have absorption bands in the infrared
  2. There is some as of yet unknown mechanism for earth to shed extra heat absorbed by CO2.

If you believe it's conclusively not a thing, please shed light on how the excess heat is shed from the system.
