I have a neighbor who works for a large brewer and distributor who told me to stock up on beer because there's a shortage of EVERYTHING - aluminum, grains, hops, barley, glass, paper and plastic. He told me there was a company wide meeting on Monday and the managers said the shortages are getting worse and the prices for raw materials in ALL industries are skyrocketing.

He said to expect beer prices to go up another 10-15% this spring and some domestic brands will be hard to find.

My neighbor doesn't think it's from the Ukraine war, but from all the workers nationwide who were laid off or fired for refusing the vaccines, and that the war is just a cover up for the economic collapse.

I'm 3 days sober and all liquor and mead is down in the deep prep room. Going to try to go the rest of the year sober except for renaissance festival days. So that's only 6-7 drinking days in 2022.

Wish me luck. I'll miss mead the most. Dansk Mjod with hops added yummm.

If you are an alcoholic (and it sounds as though you are), and think you are going to stop drinking except on certain holidays, you are in for a major disappointment. Alcoholism doesn't work that way. You need to quite completely, and never touch a drop of any alcoholic beverage again for the rest of your life. That's the only way. I suggest you try to form a relationship with Christ at the same time, as this can be very helpful in maintaining sobriety.

Okay so let's just say that I don't drink until September and then drink a few horns of mead a few Sundays this fall.

What does that mean? Will I automatically fall into a pit of despair?

As it stands now, I want to get rid of my extra weight and get more energy to get back to the gum.

I dont think I'll have any physical withdrawal effects, haven't so far. I have previously been drinking exactly every other night. Sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, but too much definitely. I want to break that cycle and get back on track with my health.

I know what you say is very common to say but I enjoy the rennfest more than almost anything else in the world and it's a time for drink and revelry.

People who can't control themselves will project that onto others. You do you. I stop once or twice a year for a month or so. I'm thinking on taking another hiatus soon. This may be a reason to.

Are you truly incapable of enjoying a "rennfest" without being drunk? If this is the case, you truly have a problem, and giving yourself a "cheat day" is probably going to lead to a downward spiral. I've seen it dozens of times.

You're not on a diet, where you get a few "cheat days" to eat some nasty (but very tasty) food after dieting and exercising hard for months and months. Eating a donut per month while maintaining an otherwise stellar diet isn't going to fuck you up. But donuts don't fuck up your ability to make decisions, donuts don't remove your inhibitions. What does? The very thing you're trying to kick. That one drink hits, your "cheat", and your body remembers the feeling- and it misses it. And it demands more, every fiber of your being. While clear-headed, you might be able to resist this. But with a little booze in ya? Hmm maybe a second drink isn't so bad, the first one didn't ruin my life again... 8 drinks later, and you're back to square 1.

I'll never understand drinkers. I tried to, really- but all I see is a destructive force that ruins peoples' lives and makes them retarded.

You talking about the guy that turned water into wine? Yeah, good luck staying sober around that lush.

Just don't go to any weddings with Him in attendance. "Hey Jesus, this party sucks. We've got nothing but water to drink."

You are correct about addiction but stop trying to force a PUSSY JEWISH GOD who teaches people to be meek and pathetic on your fellow man.

No need to wish you luck. Be strong enough to follow your plan without shame, or apology.

Man, I still haven't tried mead. Almost tried making some once, but that project got backburnered. Is it really that good?

Stop by total wine and get viking blood. Dansk mjod. Most of the other stuff is too sweet.

This stuff tastes better with all the hops. Even better is the one with hops and hibiscus. Makes you dream.

The belching beerguts in the bars will survive somehow.

You can make a premium beer yourself for the price of a crappy one.

You can make a beer but I promise you it won't be premium nor will it be less expensive.

The AHA publishes gold metal recipes (brewed by homebrewers) https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/beer-recipes/medal-winning-homebrew-recipes/. A typical batch size is five gallons and will cost you about $45.

Yeah go ahead and buy that and make it in a stock pot on your stove and tell me how it turns out. I used to brew. You can do it on the cheap but you're going to get mediocre beer at best without decent equipment. Or you fuck it all up because you have no idea what you're doing and you just poured that $45 down the drain.

Been sober my whole life, couldn't care less.

The lockdown in general slowed down the supply chain in every way. Not just people that refuse vaccines.....

Hopefully the amazing German brewery near me will continue to be there to fill my growler.

I haven't bought beer in months. Sticking to vodka mixed with seltzer. Way less calories.

covid doesnt explain why all imports are low. I think we might be banned. I'm buying cases of everything .. money will be worthless soon and shelves will be empty

Have a well-deserved point for that heads up.
