So called ghost guns, as it is, can't have a good reputation, compared to traditional firearms; by their very nature they aren't reliable, as it is. It's a throwaway plastic thing that will break eventually. Nobody wants to go to war with that, nobody wants to end up with his pants down at worst moment

Traditional "ghost guns" are not 3d printed. They are nothing new. My grandfather made a .44 carbine in metal shop when he was a kid. It's not serialized. That's a "ghost gun."

80% lowers are another example of "ghost guns."

To understand the purpose of modern 3d printed variants is to understand the purpose of the liberator.
