I quit buying anything from that bozo Bezos period. So many horror stories from friends I grew up with who have had to endure his houses of torment-for-paycheck.
Just sayin, I bought a $600 speaker from Amazon, then the speaker company came out with an upgraded version. The first one was still en route.
I tried to stop the sale or start a return and amazon said no returns on that item.
I chatted with the rep and they said just go ahead and keep the $600 speaker for free and order the new one if you want. Lol ok!
when was this?
this is the type of shit amazon used to do all the time but is much more rare now.
Was this past summer.
I just bought a battery for my bike, the battery arrived with a bent terminal, I got in touch with customer service and they were basically just like "keep it for free and we'll get another one sent to your house in two days"
cool thanks
Last year they sent me a second set of Bowflex adjustable dumbells. I asked them for a returrn shipping label. They just told me to keep it. $400
Last month. I ordered a can of powdered butter for my food supplies. They delivered a can of black beans. I contacted, they sent butter told me to keep the beans. $25
I seem to get something or other free from them once a year or so.
2 years ago it was a set of shelves. I ordered 1, got 2.
all of these things were shipped and sold by amazon. I filter out the third party sellers on there to limit the scams.
Granted. Bezos is a fucking nightmare of a problem. I have to shop somewhere. I sure as hell wont patronize wall mart, and target has limited chinese selection just the same as walmart and costs more. My options are limited in where i can buy many things.
Weights are expensive as shit to ship.
If it makes you feel any better Bezos sold Amazon to a jew
Amazon co-mingles like product, so you never know if you're getting new stuff or some other sellers junk. I quit buying any hardware beyond things like cheap components - like boxes of heatshrink or jumpers or something - from them.
Fortunate enough to have a Micro Center here, they're not always the cheapest but you can walk in and say this shit don't work and get a new one in short order.
I worked in the byopc dpt at a microcenter for 2 years back in like 2013-5 shit wash so cah and made bank for being 20yo
I always wanted a technical job as such, either related to PCs of phones, but there were so few opportunities other than working at some similar crappy PC store for the same minimum wage as working on checkouts.
Everyone buys mobiles and contracts directly from the networks now anyway, its cheaper to get a sim only plan and an unlocked phone and keep it until it dies rather than upgrading every couple of years anyway, there's very little opportunity in technical sales unless you can work directly for any of the manufacturers, and for that you need to live in a city which has one of their HQs or call centres, and then the latter has all been moved offshore to third world countries for cheaper labour.
it was pretty cool. was commission based and we would get resellers to basically run their business with our discount merch... and what we marked down when applicable. made dumb money built $4k computers.
Did you invest in ice cream?
no there was a weed store next door so I invested in getting stoned
I'm going to try get a brand new 1 tb western digital gen 4 drive for the media PC, I cancelled the previously ordered 500 Gb Gigabyte ones as the were slower 5000 mb read and taking too long for stock, and these 1 tb WDs cost the same as the two reduced price 500 Gb drives.
I'll just have to partition it for a boot sector, that is if I don't end up double scammed.
Tbh I have been guilty of such shenanigans in the past, but I never send back empty boxes or swapped out items - if Amazon send it on non signed delivery then it simply never arrived and I get it refunded, not my fault they cheap out on the delivery and can't prove whether or not I got it.

Think a sophisticated company would track customers who did things like this? Very easy to track and human behavior is fairly easy to predict after a certain point.
Oh they do, you just don't do it all the time, once a year on a high value item out of hundreds of orders isn't going to get noticed.
I'm disenchanted with Amazon too. Their selection is much poorer than it was a year ago, their prices are much higher, and there are almost no real sales. They've gone way downhill since Covid started. It's as though now they've driven all the local stores out of business, they think they don't need to try anymore.
The major problem is like this case, theres loads of items that say fullfilled by Amazon prime, but you still end up getting swindled with sketchy resales.
newegg is just as bad with computer stuff and other electronics, people are getting garbage in the boxes.
last time i needed computer stuff i was lucky enough to be able to go to a microcenter. not sure how they are with online orders as of late.
Meanwhile Walmart sent me 1 of a 3 pack of oil and when I contacted customer service they sent me a "replacement" bottle of oil meaning they want the original back. I reversed the charges and will again when they charge me for not returning the original. Have not had a single response that wasn't automated.
I have purchased hundreds of items from Amazon and have only had one major problem. I purchased a fan from the used items once, because... what could possibly go wrong, lol. It was just stuffed loose in the box, screws and all, then the box was entirely wrapped with clear packing tape. Aside from being all scratched up from shipping loose, nothing was broken.
Short story is, I'll never buy used again.
