I guess the hangup is in how we all interpret "overly" passionate. I love my job, and it's physically brutal and unpleasant sometimes too. I'm thinking about the guys who are into the job for the sake of the job and don't have any sort of life or identity outside of the workplace.
That's being one dimensional. Usually those types are also inflexible in their opinions. I have many outside interests. Sculpting wood, painting, landscaping, making new friends, and reading great books that seriously open my eyes to things I never thought about. Yes, I worked last year for a plumber like this. A good man but sometimes I had to beg him to reconsider stuff when I helped him landscape a backyard. I walked off that job because he wanted me to install drainage for the yard improperly. He's a great plumber but an idiot at landscaping.
