Call me weird but then a good job pays for all that other stuff. I've seen a guy who would leave work because the wife was crying on the phone. First off, I never brought a phone to work. Any thing goes wrong while I'm at work can be handled better by police or ambulance and I do have relatives who are available. The guy with the whiny wife did get fired leaving work to much and spending time on his phone. He should have given his wife the foreman's number and shut his phone off. No one ever died from a panic attack. Maybe get her a cat?

I guess the hangup is in how we all interpret "overly" passionate. I love my job, and it's physically brutal and unpleasant sometimes too. I'm thinking about the guys who are into the job for the sake of the job and don't have any sort of life or identity outside of the workplace.

That's being one dimensional. Usually those types are also inflexible in their opinions. I have many outside interests. Sculpting wood, painting, landscaping, making new friends, and reading great books that seriously open my eyes to things I never thought about. Yes, I worked last year for a plumber like this. A good man but sometimes I had to beg him to reconsider stuff when I helped him landscape a backyard. I walked off that job because he wanted me to install drainage for the yard improperly. He's a great plumber but an idiot at landscaping.
