I'm hoping you don't share this thought with your auto mechanic/shop,if we aren't passionate about the quality of our work, people die.

What always scared me is that where I was from anyone who was an auto mechanic or a carpenter usually was an alcoholic in high school and was having problems with drugs later in life as well. and these are the only jobs that they could get. To think about it like that, that's scary as fuck. to have a fall down washed up drunk making stairs or a fall down washed up drunk putting brakes on your car.

Your concerns are VERY real,I've let go(no references) 3 mechanics in the last 12.5 months, all for NOT paying attention to detail.

Sometimes I have to take my vehicle to the dealer, and they're the worst offenders. I've called them out in every job they've done due to shoddy workmanship. These bastards got the nerve to charge top dollar for their labor.

I could see that at small shops maybe, but large shops and dealerships have a lot of oversight from foremen and managers, so those people get weeded out eventually. The dealership I work for is small but if there's any kind of comebacks we (techs) get held accountable.

Yeah but it's an uphill battle to try to prove what happened was not something I did. I mean something so simple as screwing the top of my air filter housing back down after they checked the air filter to tell me I needed a new air filter.I mean maybe they thought I was going to authorize the work but still why would I pay the dealership a hundred bucks to do that when I can do it myself. still it was very dangerous of them to assume.
