Sounds like your wife had an elective c section.
Unless additional methods are employed, a C-section bypasses seeding the child's gut flora with beneficial bacteria present within the birth canal.The first bacteria this child will encounter are those of an operation room/hospital room and not those of his mother and her environment. As a result of skipping the vaginal birth, there is an entire cocktail of bonding hormones present in both mother and child that are bypassed as well.
If I would ever have a baby, I would opt for a midwife and home birth.
Lots of midwives work together and share a birthing center where they have all their tools and supplies and handle the cleanup. You might consider that your first time around until you know what to expect.
I tried to get my cousin to go that route, but instead she went to the hospital and was talked into a c-section. She's massively overweight and unhealthy, and it seems like a bad start for her son. We have a center like you described right in ourr town but she didn't even visit and get info (I didn't go check it out either, so some of that's on me lol)
Ask them about pre-natal stretching and what sort of exercises can be done to help keep hips/baby positioned correctly for an easier labor. There is so much more than can be done besides the hospital recommended lie-on-your-back silliness.
At that point I imagine most women just want to abort their child.

Then the doctor and hospital make more money.
That's neither elective nor cosmetic. So, just unfortunate, or she didn't do shit to take care of herself and prepare her body, or she bitched out and took the epidural.
