1.4K

My current ram was a kit of bog standard 2x16 3200 that I got for £139 that by luck turned out to be magical Micron E die that clocked all the way up to 4200 CL16 at 1.55v.

However it isnt RGB, and the only better RGB kit was 4400 2x16 CL19 1.4v which uses the same chips, so bump up to the voltage for higher clocks or lower timings.

That kit has an RRP and previous price of £450 and ws never worth it.

Turns out it was just reduced to £180 so I've grabbed a pair for my main PC, and my current sticks can go in a cheap upcoming I5 12400 build as the intel budget boards now allow memory overclocking too and I doubt they'll make the budget boards DDR5, or at least offer DDR4 options like they are doing for the high end boards.

But the budget alder lakes arent due until february, but I can wait as I don't have a TV yet.

I need an I5 12400 or 12500 non F though so I don't need a graphics card, the integrated will be enough for the lounge PC, and if I want to play high end games I can stream via ethernet. I suspect the 12400 will use a gimped iGPU in which case I would need to go for a 12500 as it needs to run as many games without streaming as possible at 4k since streaming causes a lot of lag. I'll mainly just use it for 2D controller games plus netflix and amazon prime anyway.

I'll keep my 10900K main PC until Intel's next die shrink, and if I ever manage to get an RTX GPU for it, then move my 1080 Ti to the lounge PC.
