Firearms and ammo.

[–] 3 pts

Got that, my kids are armed and gun nuts. You're right.

[–] 1 pt

Buy farm land. Grow food. Build a retreat.

[–] 1 pt

"Gold won't always get you guns, but guns will always get you gold."

[–] 0 pt

And anything else.

[–] 1 pt

All value is relative. Under certain circumstances, gold will buy you food. But once all the stores are empty? A whole car trunk full of gold won't buy you one can of beef stew. Or one more day of life.

Depending on where you live, and want to live, buy a home. Stop paying rent. We retired and bought a older house (built 1970) in a small rural town in Aug 2020. Just checked the Zillow valuation (I know, not that reliable, but when we bought we paid what Zillow valued it at) and it's 'value' has gone up 20%. Plus in a this small rural town our property taxes a 1/3 what they were for the same size house on a much smaller lot close to a city.

[–] 3 pts

That's the same situation in my small town. Property rates way way up. But, afraid of a real estate bubble and getting in trouble. I dunno.

Buy silver.

[–] 2 pts

Others say gold only (which I don't believe)...I do have junk silver and some silver eagles.

[–] 4 pts

Comes out of the ground 10:1 to gold.

Trades at 90:1

Silver will do at least 9x whatever gold will do.

That being said, silver is heavily manipulated and it may or may not be a while.

Go on vacation with the family and blow a good chunk of it on having some fun.

[–] 1 pt

Dang, you are absolutely right on that...we get too tangled up in 'what if' and 'shoulda coulda woulda.'

Renting at the moment. Have some savings, retired, have about $90,000 income yearly.

Don't wanna do the back to the land thing (I'm old and been there done that and don't have the energy, strength, motivation).

No hobbies (I enjoy educating myself and gardening).

No motorcycle anymore (I do want a jeep).

Maybe a Serval cat would be nice you feel me?

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

If you like gardening, maybe buy a small plot(a few acres) of semi-nearby, farmable land and get things growing, dig a well, build a small shed/shelter.

If the worst happens, you'll have both food to eat and trade, and land to retreat to. If it doesn't, you've got food, a side hustle, and a secret sex den.

[–] 4 pts

No energy for it though lol. Been there done that.

I'm to the point where I feel like I want to ditch my house and the bulk of my possessions so I can be free to get the F out of dodge at he drop of a hat. I don't want to be bogged down with concerns about property and stuff. Unfortunately I have pets I love, and so I can't just ditch them.

[–] 1 pt

I know exactly how you feel.

And that's what's keeping me from buying an African Serval cat (besides stupid permits), they keep you immobile, to an extent.

Same for having livestock and a homestead. I guess you take your choices and live with it.

[–] 1 pt

Buy land, they aren't making anymore of it.

[–] 1 pt

If it were me, I'd buy a turn key used sailboat with as many of the "bells and whistles" as I could find. Stock that bitch with food, fuel, water, and extra batteries.

That or,

As much ammunition as I could find for the money.

I did this years ago.

Problem is storage. As expensive to have in a dock as rent.

Unless you are going to be away from docks and living out in the water.

Even so when you approach land it gets expensive. Visa fees. Water and food more expensive. Wifi very expensive.

And you need to do boat maintenance every 3 to 5 years which means boat out of the water.

Also can't just drop anchor anywhere any more. Coastal cities force you to moorings and then charge you per night.

And you use deisel for electricity and moving and making water although new solar panels can take about 1/5 of that burden now unless you have a big catamaran with lots of panels.

It's not at all what it used to be.

Like with RV s jealous homeowners hate you and try to ban you or encourage local politicians to restrict you or charge you money to use public roads or water to park in while keeping it free for themselves. Meanwhile local homeowners use roads we all have paid for for free, park their cars for free on them while filling their garages with junk, dump their sewage in pipes going to the ocean or landfill instead of in waste handler's like boats and RVs, generate 10x more trash and waste than a boat or RV owner, have far less efficient appliances and have dwellings made of paper machace and paint that don't last. But boat owners and RVs living mostly self contained lives are the bad guys.

You know I've never been on a sailboat in my entire life?

Sounds fantastic.

If you buy a home that is attached to the utility grid and high land taxes you haven't bought any lower cost of living for the future. Those will all be unaffordable.

You need to invest in things that will rise much faster than the dollar collapse.

Right now only crypto does that.

Your money has to grow faster than your bills will rise.

Again. Only crypto has done that.

I am talking the real inflation. Not the fake numbers.

And you have to accept that you will not have health care or insurance. You have to do what the pioneers did. Est right and trust your body and avoid bears and stupid accidents.

Because if you are involved at ALL in buying health insurance or long term care or taking prescriptions then there is no way even crypto can grow faster than those costs.

The global fiat system has imploded this year. Look at the price of meat. Of even cheap shoes. It's done for most people. There won't be a revolution they will just die quietly in their homes. That what the lockdowns have taught us.

What you need to bet the coming inflation apocalypse is a source of heat. Can be solar or wood if near forest. A source of food. Chickens, eggs, a milk cow. Potatoes.

You need to have no utility ties and not be in an area where they will soon reach either.

You need to forgo health insurance etc. And remain healthy like everyone did before all that.

Don't do stupid things. Don't eat sugar. Have antibiotics. Accept that one day you will die but at least you'll have freedom for the time you are alive.

Buy guns and ammo, then lease a few acres of woodland on a mountain and build a cabin a-la Unkie Ted-style

[–] 1 pt

I'm too tired to do that lol. I did when I was younger, in the Ozarks.

[–] 2 pts

Get a RV then

[–] 0 pt

I tell you man, I am hard to please.

Lol, I would love to do just that, and I just might.

Think OPSEC: Be cautious about withdrawing the cash from the bank -- remember than any actual cash withdrawals over $9,999 are automatically reported to the Feds. If you are going to buy gold with some of the money (which I recommend), order the 1/4 ounce gold pieces as they are much easier to exchange when needed. Reputable gold coin sellers only and pay with a certified check, not cash since they report that to the Feds.

Use some of the money to pay off any outstanding bills which you may (or may not) have. If you don't already have one, invest in a good quality night vision scope for your weapon of choice -- mine is mounted on my SKS since that is what I will use for close-in targets on my property.

If you are a marksman and prefer head-shots, no need for armor-piercing rounds. Tracers not needed since they just make you a target as I know from Vietnam and my M1919 .30 cal machine gun on a bipod.

Use some of the money to do something you have always wanted to do -- but avoid Oriental Massage places.

Good Luck!

[–] 1 pt

>avoid Oriental Massage places

But, but....

Great advice, thanks. Had many older friends who went to Nam, I barely escaped.

Do NOT try to avoid the feds seeing your transactions. It's called structuring and it's a crime. They can easily detect it since they monitor all transactions from all venders now down to the penny.

Just buy legal things. You can't hide from them anyway.

It's legal to own gold. Buy some. It doesn't matter if feds know you did. Hide it and forget it.

All this talk of guns and stuff is ridiculous. If it gets that bad there will be helicopters over your house taking you out. About the only thing a gun is good for is avoiding rare BLM riot type events. But your best move there is to move out of those high density places long ago.

Guns don't work in the long run. Look at south Africa. Guns stop working once they have control of the government because they'll ban yours or just bring more than you have.

Guns just draw attention to yourself and make you a first target by governments.

Be the guy with the milk cow hidden in the barn not the guy with the guns.
