I’m sorry that you’re too stupid to know how analogies operate. You didn’t offer a corollary or reasonable equivalency. So, no, in no way does your faggy reply have any merit.
The upvote arrow has a function that is independent of the downvote. It could exist without the downvote. It’s meant to increase visibility for comments and topics you, or others, might want seen.
The downvote arrow is simply an easily identifiable icon that pairs well visually within the confines of the limited real estate of the Poal user interface. To eliminate confusion about its purpose, there are ample warnings and notes from AOU about how it is to be used and how it isn’t.
Your belief that the downvote arrow should function in whatever way you see fit, specifically as a tool to punish anyone you disagree with, would run contrary to the terms of service of the site, and becomes subject to whatever penalties AOU decides to apply to your decision to act on that mistaken and ignorant belief.
By the way, per my above analogy, using the downvote to suppress off topic content would be equivalent to using your mouth to chew food
That’s a lot of words to say upvote for visibility and downvote for spam. Maybe you could add a spam button or a report button. But damn that’s a lot of words, big ones too.
Maybe you should read the welcome page once a day to remind you there’s a report button for posts and comments, but to prevent abuse, it’s only enabled for Red Barons (level 30+)
