It is part of the culture of poal. The founders were sick of people just downvoting into oblivion (on other websites) opinions that they just don't like. The founders wanted to create a different culture here.
I downvoted someone's post once. But that was only because it was a like to a fake click-bait "news" site that only generates fake news to generate traffic. I explained why I downvoted the post.
