I'm always torn on this issue. There should absolutely be strict term limits for pretty much any office. Their financials should also be subject to public audit so we can make sure they aren't getting rich by taking bribes and shit. There's actually precedence for this- when Alexander Hamilton had his affair, he was accused of improper speculation.
To clear himself, he basically laid bare his private life, revealing that he was innocent of the accusations... but he was screwing some other dude's wife in exchange for his money. Not the tax payers' money.
