I drove over Snoqualmie Pass today. The pass was closed overnight last night due to snowfall and corresponding collisions and spin-outs. It was only about 10inches of snow at the top of the pass.
Normally the DOT is more than capable of keeping the pass drivable with such a small amount of snow. But now Washington is terminating all unvaccinated employees and the DOT is severely understaffed.
There are other bridge closures and washouts around the state following the big rainstorm so they're playing a shell game to pretend this isn't abnormal. But Snoqualmie is a major pass and is always a top priority in the winter. And they just knee-jerk closed it since they're intentionally understaffed. And this morning when I came over, what plowing they did do was so shitty that the east slope was still snow covered. Third world tier bullshit.
