The issue is then, are plastic bags more dangerous than lots of small particles of plastic. I'd personally rather a turtle die of a plastic bag wrapped around it than have any % chance of eating a fish with crude oil leftovers in it (or any other fish eating it).

Yeh, but if making carbon is part of life, and the planet is still thriving with plant and animal life, there isn't a problem.
