Does anyone even have a working 8 track anymore? Got one in the garage but not sure it works.

I have a friend that does a lot of work with old media. He has an 8-track and will usually pick up the home recorded ones at shows.

It's an interesting old format, and by interesting I mean thank god it's gone.

Yeah, just like with cassettes. How much time did we spend trying to rewind and fix them when the deck ate them.

Cassettes seem to have made somewhat of a minor comeback, it's trendy to release your album on vinyl or cassette.

But yes, that magnetic tape is no longer the main media does not bother me in the least.

I wish 45 records would, Im drowning in them. Along with a few jukeboxes.

I have a player/recorder but no 8 track tapes to test it with....

Wait a minute. I never knew you could record on 8 track, not on home players anyway.

It's just tape and you could make your own from blanks. Let me dig it out and post a picture of it tomorrow if I can remember to.... Think it is even a Radio Shack unit.

And it lets you know to separate into tracks? Or just runs over?

If it doesn’t work, it’s probably the old capacitors, they fail over time. But luckily they are easy to replace. It’s common in ham radio, the first thing you do when restoring an old radio is recap it. The same applies here. Also, I remember cleaning the tape heads with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol, good times!
