Other one died while still in soap phase, what a pain in the ass that was. This is a pretty much basic washer.

Have any of you tried getting parts for shit lately?

Clothes washer? Buy used for $150-200, preferably an old non-HE model. Very cheap to repair and easy to work on.

Dishwasher? They're never cheap, but older models were better because they weren't subject to efficiency standards.

[–] 2 pts

Yeah but those efficiency standards were put in place by the government to look out for you and it worked cuz they're efficient and not burning as much of that awful fossil fuel! What's the problem if a little of Tuesday's lasagna is left on the plate, you don't have to but as much food. Ask Greta, she'll tell you, she's 18 and really smart!

[–] 2 pts

High efficiency washers are about water consumption, just like low flow toilets. Energy consumption hasn't changed a bit for any kind of washer.

I hate to say this but are you an idiot? Do you know anything about machines? I’m going to stop here. And say you’re the first one I will shoot and eat in the apocalypse. Your cats will be fine, I have more respect for them than I have for you.

Same, a poor man can only afford the best. Not a bad price. Of course, back in 1972...

I have the sticker price from my 1974 brand new Pinto right here in the drawer you feel me? $2295.00.

[–] [deleted] 4 pts

Hah! I use to drive a pinto, was two in our family. fuck there are washers now you can use with a fuckin phone! Why?

[–] 1 pt

The fucking Pinto was a death trap.

My girlfriend had one.

I have memories of driving on the highway at the 60 mph - until I come to a hill and the Pinto can't climb it faster than 45 mph, and now I am shitting bricks because trucks are baring down on my ass, and a rear end collision brews up the car like a torch.

Of course, you remember that well:)

You haven't lived until you've had sex in the back seat of a Pinto.

If I sound too critical, this was what i was driving at the time:

Lol is that a gremlin? Yeah I was blissfully unaware of the gas tank explosion problems.

[–] 1 pt

It's a pacer - like a gremlin but a lot more bowl.

Did you toss the old machine? I know what failed, and it's usually an easy fix. I owned an appliance repair biz for a decade.

Tell me the make and model number.

[–] 2 pts

New washers don’t wash.....fix your old one.

You got off easy. An LG can run $1000 easy.

I'll tell you a short story about my furnace.

It fucked up. Pipe burst, small explosion, the whole deal.

So a new furnace, and they're talking $5,000 to $10,000 depending on the model I chose.

I fixed computers for a living.

So I hired a repairman to repair my furnace.

$500 for a new radiator. $50 for a new control unit. $249 for a brand new blower motor.

$750 for labor - including all of the plumbing, etc, and I paid cash / so the price to me was "tax included."

All told it came out about $1800 or so. The furnace was basically fully rebuilt with all brand new components except for what could be salvaged. The working conditions were difficult - and there was a long wait time for the radiator because we had to ship that up from Iowa or something.

Fucking around - but in the end the system worked better than it did when I first found it. Fully refurbished, and at 1/5th the price. What do I care? It's in the closet and it now works again. That's all I care about it.

Great story. Thank you.

Now I am compelled to tell you about my uncle. He heated his house in cold, cold NJ with a cast iron boiler until the fucking thing actually broke in half. Useless. I have no idea how he got rid of the old one. I have no idea where he found another boiler to replace it. But one day, there was a flatbed with a 2 ton boiler there. Me, my brothers and his kids, my cousins, were all willing to help move this monster from the flatbed to the cellar.

My uncle just smiled at us and shoo'd us off. Go hunting or fishing or picking apples from the nearby abandoned orchard. We all came back a few hours later and that 2 ton monster was installed in the basement of my uncles house. To this day, I have no idea how he did it. "How did you do that?" He just smiled at us.

Like that Latvian that built the Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida, he took his secret to the grave.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

uncle moved it with a broomstick and only a broomstick. just as my father would do.

Have you tried not being poor yet?

Cant help what I am at this point, bad decisions were made long ago. Im sure your washer was over $1500 and phone accessible. I dont even want that. Nor do I want a new fucked up vehicle, or iphone. Im glad it all makes you happy, I would just be better prepared than I am already.

[–] 1 pt

Contentment isn't discovered in wealth. Besides, that's not even the aim. The aim is to avoid impairment on the path to contentment. Even then, rich people don't actually go buy expensive ass appliances. They're wealthy because they don't make those decisions. People that make retarded finacial choices like that are not rich (beyond extreme exceptions) and if they are they've either been rich for a very long time or they won't be for much longer.

My experience differs from yours.

Top load Whirlpool or Kenmore with the mechanical dials, early 90s models, even some of the 80s. Find a refurb shop in your area, 1-200 tops.

I haven't done laundry in 3 years. lol.

Florida. I live in shorts. I occasionally go to the thrift shop and buy shirts and shoes and such, but when they get worn out... into the garbage they go.

God Bless America.

Uhhh, excuse me, but what the actual fuck...
