All of Kyles shots were point blank, you wouldn't have been able to miss with a blunderbuss let alone any modern gun.

It was only at that range because of the weaponry they had.
They could have shot him from 25-50 yards away and he wouldn't have a prayer at returning fire.
3 men with rifles would have put him down easily.
