A guy walks up to me and says hes Navajo. He certainly looked it but only half because he looked like he had to shave 3x a day.

He starts out by saying " I dont know how you think but,,," The white man stole this land. Christopher Columbus was a mass murderer. etc.

I told him the natives crossed a land bridge from Siberia during the Ice Age then spent the next 10,000 years fighting each other for land.

I also said that every nation on earth was the result was conquest and that it predated the written word.

Not the "Oh you poor victim" he was looking for. Columbus didnt land in North America. He found some islands in the Caribbean.

Ponce De Leon sailed around Florida and named it Land of Flowers. Panfilo De Narvaez landed 300 men and some horses where St Petersburg Fl. is now.

3 years later 3 survivors stumbled into a Spanish mission in Texas. The natives and the land had killed 99% of the first explorers to step foot in North America.

So when people say "we stole this land". I say "We conquered this continent".

Not only that but the Phoenicians and the Vikings both were here before Columbus. I'm sure their remnants mixed with the Indian populations that were present at the time. History is a never ending lineage of the stronger group either killing or absorbing the weaker group.

If you are English (as I am, by descent), you know about successive conquest and displacement. The Picts were displaced by the Britons. The Britons were displaced by the Celts. The Indians on the islands where Columbus explored would take a young boy, castrate him, force feed him like foi gras, and then eat him as a feast.

The Conquistadores conquered a civilization of millions while being thousands of miles from home... they didn't do it alone. The "Aztecs" were a group of tribes who joined together into an empire and killed and enslaved everyone else, so their enemies were more than happy to help the Spanish. After things calmed down, the people groups naturally merged as things tend to happen.

Even the Aztecs were invaders from the north, and not native to that area. Most people/tribes of the area HATED the Aztecs, because they kept the area in a constant state of war and tribute, and would force all surrounding tribes to give tribute to the temples for human sacrifice.

Cortez wrote about his visit to Tenochtitlan (what is now Mexico City), and how the screams of the people being sacrificed could be heard from sunrise to sunset, every single day.
