About 15 years ago, working with a 'fully Mexican-American' heritage person, she told me that their culture saw it as a negative to be more white as that implied their ancestors were raped by Spaniards from Europe. I'm just saying what she said, and that Mexican culture passes down a 'be ashamed to be white' story. I don't know if that was just the recent anti-white push or if it's been there for the past century. Certainly modern Mexicans have no reason to hate themselves for something hundreds of years ago?
Anecdotally, you're probably right. Growing up, I had a good friend who was a white Hispanic. He was the most racist bastard I've ever had the privilege of knowing. He hated Latinos because they hated him; completely disavowed that part of his ancestry. Being of mixed race is truly its own kind of hell-on-Earth— you're never truly accepted anywhere, and can never really call any place your home.
