I also hear a lot of Americans complain about Chinese quality, especially in auto parts. I am old enough to remember people making devisive remarks about Japanese quality until in the late 70's and definately the 80s they dominated manufacturing and were respected for the quality of their products. At this point the Chinese have the experience and the equipment to produce a superior product. A company that contracts with a Chinese manufacturer can specify whatever quality they are willing to pay for. The problem is within the Chinese mindset. Any rejects from that stringent quality will find their way unto the market as counterfeit product competing with the company that markets them and diluting their brand. Secondly the likely intellectual property theft, the propensity for Chinese manufacturers to take the product and produce their own competing brand at a reduced price. Country of origin is no longer a barometer of quality. Western companies pay so much taxes and benfits that they cannot compete with Southest Asia for manufactured goods. They have to cut corners to compete. The better parts can and do come from China. Mexico is the next great manufacturing base for North America. Vietnam and India have supplanted Chinese dominance for low cost, low quality goods. The Chinese people are beginning to become accustomed to a middle-class lifestyle which will be hard to maintain without expansion and colonial exploitation such as Africa. The Chinese unfortunately are their own worst enemies. They will fuck over their grandma for a buck. No one trusts them, and rightfully so! I saw a video where a dumpling vendor was quite proud of himself for establishing a recipe with the exact amout of shredded cardboard in his product so as to be undetectable by his clientelle. Ever hear of the Chinese baby formula adulteration with melamine powder? Infants died. Chinese can subsidize their out of country vacation by smuggling in enough US made baby formula to sell to their friends. They are realy stupid business people. Even the filthy rich ones. Ever hear of Jack Ma? He owns Ali Express. Bigger than Amazon. Buy something there and you can get a great price but have to deal with the typical Chinese bullshit. Lackadaisical shipping, orders cancelled for no reason. Bogus tracking numbers. Sure, Ali express holds the payment in escrow but meanwhile you have to put up with a month of bullshit and there is no human contact. No customer service for you, or the vendor. Not to mention Ma complaining about the CCP. He disappeared for a while, probably re-educated, he was getting too big for his britches.
