The standard NPC response is 'well we destroyed their country'. Go ahead and try to explain (((who))) really 'destroyed their country' and takes in zero immigration from said countries.
I’ve been down that road with sevreal npcs so many times. I’ve also tried being neutral in the convo and let the npc recite thier talking points. They seem to get enraged if you don’t take a side which is funny.
Asking them to explain makes things even more uncomfortable. Imagine asking a cult member to explain the cult to you, they can't explain beyond the hypnosis created by the cult leader.
