Hep B is typically given on day 1 of a child's life because there is a really high rate of Hep B in minority groups. Doctors want to make sure those babies are protected because it's likely that the minority parent won't care enough to come back in later in life to get them the vaccine. Literally the dumbing down of America for the greater good.
