The media/ entertainment wants you to believe that life before a certain tribe's 'benevolent' 'democratic' leadership was horrific. If you actually research Feudalism, you will see it's nowhere near as bad as they make it out to be. Cities always had major issues but it was the industrial era that was horrific for most people.
