Did you have the agreement with the contracting firm or your indirect employer? If it was with the contracting firm then you had the potential to sue if they would agree to let you go for that reasln on paper.
That employment agency sounds like they're major assholes for doing this. That gives you the moral ground to eventually work directly for the boss' company one day.

They're the worst one I've ever dealt with, and I've been doing this for more than a decade. I'd considered converting to FTE with the client but they don't pay staff all that well. I'm likely going to be moving to my next engagement soon.
