I'm paying about $4.50 US a pound for organic meats farm direct. It's a bit more than supermarket meats, but those are feedlot meats. Bacon price is about the same for the organic, but that's much lower than supermarket bacon around here.
One thing I noticed, there was a big spike in food prices through the spring, everything here almost doubled, however, a month later everything was on sale, and after the sale discount, actual prices were about the same as they were before the price hikes.
My guess is people stopped buying for a while, or transportation of inventory was restored, or some such.
Fact is, North America produces a massive food surplus every year, regardless of the various regional environmental impacts interrupting local food production. Overall we produce far more than we eat. Price hikes are simply not sustainable in the face of that. Now we are entering the fall harvest season, they have to move mountains of food through the system.
Look for stuff to be on sale now, and stock up for the winter.
