20 years ago, I was a server at a Denny's in South Carolina. I used to do the church groups on Sundays and they always tipped me (a guy) rather well. But when the women took those groups, tips were very poor. The manager loved having me come in on Sundays as the female staff did all they could to get out of doing these groups, and I didn't blame them at all.

There is a restaurant i know of that charges a 19% service fee. It allows dishwashers and bus boys to make up to 30 bucks an hour depending on how busy it is. From what I hear its one of the best places to work in town. Rather than a bunch of lazy fucks, everyone busts their asses because they know they are getting paid more. There is always over an hour wait everyday all day. From what I can see its a great idea.
Mandatory tipping almost exclusively ends in shit service. Why would Wait staff go above and beyond if they get the same tip/pay as the piece of shit who doesn't give a shit?

Why should a server walk out with 1200 in cash and a dishwasher make 10 bucks an hour? Dishwasher/busboy/cooks work just as hard or harder and under worse conditions than a server. Thats why. Cuz fuck the servers.
Neither the busboy, nor the dishwasher, work as hard or with the talent as good waitstaff. The waitstaff also get $2 an hour in wages, far below the minimum wage of the busboy or dishwasher, and the waitstaff are not walking out with $1200 an the end of their shift.
Bus boy and dishwasher are zero skill minimum wage jobs that only require the person to bust ass for 6 hours a shift.
Cooks get paid more than minimum wage and get paid based on their position in the kitchen and the cooking and organizational skill required to hold that position.
Wait staff get $2 an hour plus tips and their success or failure as a waiter relies on their professionalism, the restaurants' popularity, and their ability to meet the needs of the customer.
Roll up there with a bunch of friends and sit around bs'ing while getting nothing but bread and water until you get thrown out. Just keep saying you haven't decided what to order yet and to bring more bread.

My wife was a server for years. I like the ability to tip for good services. Lets say they like me in vegas.
Anyways if you force me to tip, it will be less than I would of tipped on my own.
