Just think abou that :

If you want a modern PC, Windows 11 is nearly here, so can't be lower than an Intel 7th, them you would want a good GPU, and you look at the prices... them think about memory, storage, good monitor, etc.

But... this is not the end, you need to buy games too...

Them you think, I will buy a videogame console instead... but you can't use the Internet on a console as fluently as with a PC, so you will be forced to use two different tools for to two different tasks, you will need a PC and a console.

And it is because of all this that I dropped the consoles first and them the desktop PC, I bought a notebook with a weak integrated GPU, which is enough, at least to play old games that I "like", (actually I no longer like games, they are waste of time, illusion).

Time ago I deleted my Steam, Origin, accounts, full of original purchased games, lots of them, now if I want a game, I download a pirate version, off course this don't work for online games, but if I want to play an online game, there is a lot of free to play games around.

Anyway, don't make sense anymore, games are for 15 years old, and why waste so much money ? Computers, even being powerful, seem ineffective, all this huge paraphernalia, even a notebook or a mobile phone is good enough to play several games, they are small, simple and effective, you have Internet, games, productivity, etc.

The next step is ditch Windows from my notebook, I only don't jumped ship to Android on my Notebook via Android X86, because it don't run the The Word Bible software, that is excellent for my need, if not, bye bye Windows, maybe bye bye Notebook too. But the problem for me, that smartphones are very traceable, and I hate that, maybe if I physically damage some antenna inside it, etc, anyway...

Is it just me who got tired and gave up on this world of PCs, powerful hardware, consoles, paid games, etc ?

It’s always fun to take. You know. The first 24 hours are awesome. Then it’s downhill from there. 48 hours the little imaginary gnats start buzzing and lights flash like lightning in your side vision. By the third fourth or fifth day youre completely out of your mind. Seeing shit everywhere. Then I always get the strangest sensations in my body. Unexplainable. I feel like I’m dying. Maybe go numb from the waist down but not in a sat on my leg too long numb, a super weird unnerving numb. Like jelly numb. It’s scary. Try to jump to my bed. Sometimes I’ll take milk of magnesium so I don’t get constipated. It’ll suck the water out of your kidney. Even though you’ve had one glass of water for five days.severely dehydrated so when that happens you feel like you’re dying. It’s some scary shit. You think you’re dying. Your emotions are out of wack. You’re not thinking clearly. Then you’re seeing demons and going numb all at the same time. Be texting friends telling them you think you’re about to die. Then assuming you don’t. You finally wake up the next day so beatin down by lack of food water sleep and a lack of sobriety that you’re shuffling to your kitchen like an 80 year old man. Those first 24 hours though best gaming ever

You're growing up. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

It used to be that computers were getting so much better every year, you could barely keep a PC for three years before it was obsolete. But at some point, that changed. CPUs stopped getting better, or at least, stopped improving in ways that were easy to notice. My PC is over a decade old. I don't get a new one because it still works, and when I look at the new offerings on Dell or other sites, the new PCs don't seem to do anything more than my old PC does. A new PC from Dell has less storage, less memory, than my old PC. Sure, the video card is faster, but I stopped buying video games a long time ago. First-person shooters are basically all the same game.

A lot of cases companies are taking older technologies and "updating" them and making the new versions only work on the new hardware/software and removing the old versions where they are able.

A recent example of this I can think of are wireless headsets requiring windows 10 for the THX surround sound to work properly.

The technology has been available since around 2008 https://www.audioholics.com/gadget-reviews/neural-thx

I'm using a Xeon from 2011. A MB from 2010. DDR3 sticks. An RX570 I bought a few years back for 150. Running Arch so don't give two fucks what windows decides to do. My entire rig cost maybe 500.bucks, and runs American Truck Sim on ultra, Fallout 4 on ultra, Minecraft heavily modded to hell, and Path of Exile on ultra, while running music, discord, and whatever else in the background.

These new rigs can suck a dick. Processor speed hasn't had a major jump since the early 2010s. The GPU is the most important part now, and unless your playing 4k resolution, it again doesn't matter a ton cause everything except the bottom of the barrel cards meant for office PCs work for gaming

Not if the case was an AMD CPU from 2010 or earlier, I jumped from a PC Phenom II 1090T to a notebook Intel i5 8250u and the performance difference is gigantic, my notebook gives a beating on the CPU part, but loses on the GPU part, because it is now integrated Intel HD 620, in the PC I had a Radeon HD 6850 1GB. I don't like Linux, it's light but not that much, it's overrated, and always has one problem or another, it's not intuitive and doesn't run the software I like.

Honestly the fact that GPU's have become horribly overpriced makes no difference to me. Besides who wants to shell out $700 for a 15% bump in performance? At least AMD lets you keep your motherboard so plunking down on a new CPU makes sense. For less than $300 you get the same 15% bump.

Learn to grow food. Fuck the games. Grow up, figure out how to survive.

Games keep me from spending money. I step outside of my home ant $$$$$ starts to add up. Even $70.00 into a game that I get hours of enjoyment from is a good investment.

$70 is less than one night out with the wife, and even then WE don't do much.

I tried other hobbies; bought a motorcycle, became PADI certified, got my Skydiving license

Years later, I went back to gaming, it's cheaper, it's not weather dependent, and I honestly have more fun doing it. I'm still coasting on the winning kill I got last night in Population One last night.

"games are for 15 year olds" just comes off as retarded.

What the hell do you do to unwind? After gym, kid, garden, what do you do? I game.

Talmud vision is out, music, for you at least, is a waste of time, I have my music at the gym and in the car. Only so many times you can reread worthwhile books.

I do not.and will not live to work, it just adds stress, so what's left?

Well, Internet, messing around with my bycicles, learning how to use tools, walking in nature, etc. There is much to be done. And a little bit of games, but I don't have much patience for games anymore.

[–] 1 pt

I do like walking in nature but just getting to a decent trail takes an hour. Local parks just don't cut it.

Step outside. Chances are you're at 5 stars already

I saw an ad for a gaming PC "top of the line" - only $3999.

I checked the specs and had to laugh - 16GB RAM, 512 SSD (not even NVMe), Ryzen 7, and a GTX 3080, with NXZT case, water cooling, and a 1000w PSU.

I built one from Amazon as an experiment with 32GB, 1 Tb NVMe, Ryzen 9, a 3090 and same case/cooler/PSU for about $2500.

Thing is, and is the same with TVs: there's no 8k @ 60HZ content. You're lucky to get 4K @ 120HZ today. Just wait a few years when the content is ready and the equipment is cheaper.

But yeah, its pointless and materialistic nonsense.

As long as it runs racing games I'm fine with what I have.

It's the push for game streaming, i.e. ps-on. You'll own nothing and like it.
